Can I cook dried anchovies in the oven?

I have a bag of dried anchovies (the Asian type), and instead of frying them I'm wondering if I can bake them in the oven. If so, at what temperature and for how long?

  1. Yes, but you must hydrate them first. (Water, broth, wine, oil, etc., or combination) Also, depending upon that which you are cooking, you must try to add them later in the cooking process in order to avoid overcooking.
  2. Baking dried anchovies don't taste any good. It's better if you fry them, use olive oil. eat them with white rice and fresh tomatoes or dip them in vinegar. Another way of eatingthem is adding it as a garnish for jackfruit cooked in coconut milk.
  3. Dried anchovies... if the anchovies are big (as big as a small finger) is for broth, don't cook it otherwise. (Smells... fishy!) If you have small anchovies (about.. size of a paper clip?) you can pan fry with sweetened Sousa's (1 part soy sauce, 1 part con syrup or other Asian sugar syrup, sprinkle of sesame) then eat with rice. If you bake them in the oven it will be very hard, very crunch. You can bake short time just to make it hot. (Maybe 400~450'F for 3 min??) If you like to eat anchovies that way, actually you can just eat the anchovies without baking! (My brother eat that way) Either way, dip them in Korean hot pepper sauce or Mayonnaise, tastes much better.
